Rights & Guide for Seasonal Work
Informational guide for workers and venues. Not legal advice.
⚠️ This information is for guidance purposes only and does not constitute legal advice. Regulations may change over time. For specific situations, consult a trade union, a welfare centre (patronato), or a labour professional.
The Seasonal Contract
The fixed-term seasonal contract is the most common form in the hospitality industry. It can last from a few weeks to several months and must be made in writing. The CCNL Turismo (National Collective Bargaining Agreement for Tourism) sets the minimum conditions for hotels, resorts, campsites and accommodation venues in general.
Pay & Minimum Wages
Minimum pay depends on the contractual level and job classification. The CCNL Turismo defines the minimum wage tables for each category. You are entitled to a 13th month's pay (and in some cases a 14th) and to severance pay (TFR) even for short-term contracts. Check the updated CCNL texts on the Federturismo website or the relevant trade unions (FILCAMS-CGIL, FISASCAT-CISL, UILTuCS).
Working Hours & Rest
The standard working week is 40 hours. Overtime must be compensated with extra pay or additional rest. You are entitled to at least 11 consecutive hours of rest between shifts and to one rest day per week. In the hospitality sector rest days may not be fixed, but they must be guaranteed.
Employer-Provided Accommodation
Many venues offer board and/or lodging. It is important that the conditions are clearly stated in the contract: whether accommodation is free or whether an amount is deducted from your payslip, and how much. Deductions must comply with the limits set by the CCNL. Always check these conditions before accepting.
If You Have a Problem
If you have a dispute with your employer, you can contact: the relevant trade union (FILCAMS-CGIL, FISASCAT-CISL, UILTuCS), a welfare centre (patronato – free of charge), the Territorial Labour Inspectorate (ITL) to report irregularities. Do not wait until the end of the season: many rights have strict deadlines.
